I don't think people understand this system.

If you have an Apple device, AND plug it in, the interface is activated on your touch screen. If you don't plug it in, you see the basic UI from the manufacturer. If you don't have an iphone, then you can't plug in and you will NEVER see the interface. I don't understand people saying they would never buy those cars. You don't HAVE to use it and it doesn't restrict you in anyway at all. I have a samsung TV that allows screen mirroring from galaxy phones. I don't have a galaxy phone, so I don't use that feature. Everything else about the TV is fine. I would never get another TV JUST because they offer a feature I can't use.

Its pretty sad that people become so attached to devices that they automatically reject anything involving a competing device. Google is doing the same thing for Android in cars. I don't have Android, so I won't use that if I buy that car. No big deal!

It is sad when people are fearful of something they shouldn't be fearful of. Your right, just use the radio like a radio. I recently purchased a Pioneer 8100nex but I'm not sure I'm a fan of CarPlay yet. I like the idea but I'm not sure it will work because Apple will want to control it too much. I was surprised to see it doesn't work if you are using the Apple Digital AV Adapter that brings in HDMI also. It will only work with a normal lightening connector but that in itself limits what can be transmitted back and forth... like streaming videos.

I tried the AppRadio which is supported with the Digital AV Adapter but too many of the different apps were having technical challenges. Like iHeart Radio kept wanting me to accept some conditions but the screen for acceptance was sideways and I had no way to accept it. Waze seemed to work well on it but of course if I use the AppRadio I loose my HD Radio.

At least this is all a beginning of integrating the phones into our radios but it seems to me they have a long way to do.
