According to Hyundai North America spokesman Jim Trainor, the automaker plans to roll out Apple CarPlay by the end of the first quarter this year.
The Sonata sedan will be the first model to support CarPlay. The 2016 Elantra GT and Velostar now offer the same multimedia hardware as the Sonata, but Hyundai’s manager of product planning says the technology needs to be validated in those cars before anything else is released.
Hyundai’s smartphone interface will also support the Android Auto capability.
Current 2015 Hyundai Sonata owners will be able to update their cars with the smartphone interface once it becomes available on new Sonatas from the factory.
